Transport on the Black Isle

(Note that the content of this section is still VERY incomplete - but it helps to give an idea of what is to follow....)

The Black Isle is served by a number of local bus services, linking points on the Black Isle to Inverness and Dingwall.

Some years ago, the Black Isle boasted its own light railway, sadly long gone (though the trackway is still identifiable, and parts of it make an enjoyable walk). Now, the nearest stations are at Muir of Ord, Dingwall, and Inverness.

Just across the Moray Firth from the Black Isle is Dalcross Airport, providing links to the Islands, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Manchester and London (Luton and Gatwick).

A two-car ferry still provides a service from Nigg to Cromarty.

There are numerous taxi firms and car-hire operators in the area - see our directory of services for details.
