The Black Isle Transport Survey

Shortly after its formation in 1999, the Black Isle Partnership undertook a short survey of local transport to identify which were the worst problems being encountered.

There were few problems in general to the west of the A9, because of adequate bus, rail and taxi services available. But this was not the case to the east of the A9.

The worst anoyances to local residents and businesses were the problems at the Balblair junction and Munlochy bridge which could cause tailbacks, and poor road surfaces especially at Fortrose and the Bogallan straight. Very poor public transport services were also noted from all the locations on the east of the Black Isle.

Since the report, which was presented to the Highland Council, an extra bus service has been added to the existing route, early in the morning, and smaller, more compact buses, are being used during the times when less people are travelling. Good signage has also been put up on the A9, drawing the attractions of the Black Isle to the notice of passing tourists.

We canīt say that all this was done as a result of our report, but we are sure that it has helped.

If YOU have any points to make about the transport services on the Black Isle, we would like to hear from you.
