Redcastle Station
The Black Isle Railway line carried passengers from 1894 until 1951 and had various stops en route from Muir of Ord to Fortrose. One of the stops was a private halt at Rosehaugh, near Avoch for the
estate owner, Mr James Douglas Fletcher. In its early days the line was a great success. The only alternatives for most people were horse-drawn carriages or pony and traps, bicycles perhaps, but mostly shank's pony (on foot!). Once the motor car came into its own however, the competition from cars, lorries and buses became too great and the line eventually had to close, although it continued to carry goods until 1960.
