Kirkmichael Church, Udale Bay

Kirkmichael Church and burial ground (also known at St Michael's Church/ Chapel) commands fine views over Udale Bay. It has been a religious site for many centuries - the western part of the nave and chancel are the ruinous remains of a medieval church and there are a number of fourteenth-century grave slabs in the burial ground.

The church served the parishioners of Kirkmichael until 1662, when the parish joined with Cullicudden to form a new parish called Resolis. It served as the Resolis parish church until 1767 when the congregation moved to a brand new church at Resolis.

The kirkyard contains many local family burial enclosures. Part of the centre of the church was re-roofed in the 19th century for use as a mausoleum for the Munros of Ardoch (later, Poyntzfield).

Other local burial enclosures include those of the Gordons of Ardoch, the Gordons, and later Shaw-MacKenzies, of Newhall, the Holms of Ferryton and the Dunbars.
