Hugh Miller's Cottage

Meet Hugh Miller, one of the great Scots of the 19th Century, here at his birthplace. Starting as a stonemason, he rose to world fame as a writer and pioneer of geology, as well as being a  campaigning journalist and leading church refomer.

Miller was at the heart of the great evolution debate. He wroite ferociously, yet nobody could have been more gentle or considerate.

The cottage displays include Miller's spectacular fossils, his geological hammer and microscope; his stonemason's mallet and personal items such as an early poem and his family Bible. A short video tells his fascinatingl ife story.
