Fettes Free Church The Disruption was the greatest in a succession of splits to affect the Church of Scotland. On 18 May 1843,
under the leadership of Thomas Chalmers, 470 ministers (about one third) quit the Scottish established church and set up the new Free Church of Scotland – a Church free from civil interference. The Free Church minister at
Killearnan at the time was the Reverend Donald Kennedy and the Black Isle was one of the strongest Free Church areas.
In design, Fettes Free Church it is representative of many of the post-Disruption churches in the Highlands. The fabric of the building was hewn from stone taken from the now disused Tarradale Quarry. |
