In the Dim and Distant Past

The area around Rosemarkie is well-known for its Pictish sculptured stones but there are many earlier historical sites on the Black Isle.

There are a number of Neolithic chambered cairns of varying types, some of which have yielded interesting finds. There are henges, Bronze Age burial sites and hut circles, a fort, several duns and a recently-excavated crannog at Redcastle which has revealed evidence of Iron Age occupation.
