Avoch Castle

Avoch Castle flourished from the 13th to the 16th centuries, and was of significant size - originally 600 by 200 feet. Much of the castle was demolished and the stonework removed to build Cromwell's citadel in Inverness around 1650, leaving little to show today of the once imposing size and scale of the building.

Recent clearing of woodlands at the castle site have revealed traces of the former walls, and the site is now a popular visiting site, and the location of the annual re-enactment of the North Rising of 1297.
