Educational programmes in the context of farming and countryside themes
Glachbeg is a 13 acre former croft on the Black Isle approx. 4miles North of Inverness on the road between Artafallie and Tore. The farm has been managed for grass production on largely organic lines . Current livestock include, Shetland cattle, Shetland Sheep, North Country Cheviot Sheep, Poultry, ducks and small mammals. Plans for a classroom are under development with a local architect who specialises in sustainable building systems.

Experience has shown that children and people generally are motivated by hands on experiences with animals and plants. This motivation can be a great way of delivering a wide range of curriculum subjects for schools.

Bob Bull, who is organising the Centre, is a teacher and until December 2001 managed the “Down To Earth Environmental Education Centre and Community Farm” for Southampton City Council. Bob was employed to develop this resource by the amalgamation of a school rural science unit with Southampton City Farm. Bob does some consultancy work for projects involved with the Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens. Bob also works with the DfES in England on Wales on the “Growing Schools” initiative to promote Farming and growing experiences as learning contexts for schools. He is also a Field Worker for the Federation of City farms and Community Gardens

Helen is a special school teacher.
